Add a little fitness to your workouts

During the next few workouts we will be adding some fitness components.  These activities will help keep your workouts fresh and exciting while adding some swimming specific strength work.    The main swim sets will ask that you include some optional fitness exercises to your swimming.

These exercises will include….

1) vertical jumps from the bottom of the shallow end of the pool (if available)……

2) pressing yourself out of the water…….

3) completing some core strengthening work on the deck…….and

4) diving or long jumping back into the water (based upon safety).

The vertical jumps are intended to improve leg strength and explosiveness, the deck press (which is simply pressing your upper body out of the water) will tax the muscles used during the finish phase of the stroke,  the core strengthening exercises will serve as our general fitness work, and diving or jumping back into the water will add a little fun and improve  leg strength and streamlining technique.

As always,  if there is any reason that you cannot perform these exercises please discontinue or modify them  immediately to match your ability.
